Experience

I have been a Visual Arts teacher in Douglas County for 30 years. During my college years I spent two summers abroad.  I lived with a family and attended the University of Salamanca in Spain studying Spanish.  I went the following summer to Cortona, Italy with the University of Georgia to study art.  I took courses in papermaking, painting, and art history while learning the Italian culture and language first hand.  After graduating from West Georgia College in 1987, I began my teaching career at Lithia Springs High School from 1987-1999. I moved to Chapel Hill High School when it was built and taught there from 1999-2001. Chapel Hill Middle School has been my home now since 2001 and I hope to retire from this school!

Bio

I am proudly a product of Douglas County.  I grew up in the Bill Arp and Winston communities and attended Bill Arp, Winston, Chapel Hill Middle and Douglas County High schools.  It was here at CHMS where I discovered my love of art. Mrs. Emmerick, my art teacher had a profound influence on me during my middle school years.  My grandmother is a retired teacher who greatly influenced my decision to become a teacher.  Also, my high school art teacher, Bruce Little, had a major impact on my career path. Teaching combines my love of art and children into the perfect career for me!

I have been married to my husband, Chris since 1989 and we have one son, Nicolas who is 24 years old. Nicolas is very artistic but playing saxophone is his passion! He started his saxophone career here at CHMS in the 6th grade! He graduated from Kennesaw State University majoring in Jazz saxophone performance. We also have a fun little Doxie-Beagle mix named Rudy!

I have a very large extended family and spend much of my free time with them. I love all kinds of art but have recently fallen in love with printmaking. I spent a couple of summers studying in Spain and Italy and love to travel overseas when the opportunity arises. Teaching is what I will always love. There's something special about seeing the look in a child's face when they learn a new skill or create a work of art that really expresses their emotions! Sheer joy!
