Coach Leatherwood is a product of the Douglas County School System. He even attended CHMS many years ago. After graduating from Douglas County High School, he attended Reinhardt College and obtained his Associates of Liberal Arts degree. He then completed his undergraduate studies at the University of West Georgia and received his Bachelors of Education in Middle Grades. He continued his education earning his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Coppin State University. Coach Leatherwood continues to look for opportunities to educate himself and offer better learning experiences for his students. His most recent pursuit was the completion of his Gifted Endorsement which now allows all his students to benefit from new learning opportunities.

Coach Leatherwood began his teaching career in the Douglas County School System in 1997. Since then he has contributed as a Team Leader, Department Chairperson, Learning Focused Framework Trainer, and athletic coach. After coaching football and basketball for many years, he has decreased this after school load and now focuses on coaching the Lady Cats Soccer team. He was previously selected as the Teacher of the Year for CHMS and was nominated by a former student and selected by Symmetra and the Atlanta Falcons as a Hero in the Classroom in 2012.

Coach Leatherwood started teaching at Chapel Hill Middle School in 1998. His class is a "hands-on" and interactive learning experience. He utilizes a teaching program developed by James Hollister called Living through History. This program puts the students into history quite literally. The students live through American and Georgia history and develop an understanding of how the history of America and Georgia evolved because they actually experience it in the class on a daily basis.

Coach Leatherwood stays busy teaching, enjoying his family, and coaching. He married his wife Robyn in 1999. They love spending time with their two daughters, Carly and Casey. Coach Leatherwood and his wife also coach the Lady Cats Soccer team.
